The Culture of Citizenship and Community
Stretch Beyond the Classroom
The Science Academies of New York (SANY) Charter Schools, create a culture that values volunteering and community involvement. We have two elementary schools focusing on volunteering and citizenship that help provide an enriching culture and curriculum for all students. These elementary schools include Syracuse Academy of Science and Citizenship and the Citizenship and Science Academy of Rochester Charter School.
All students participate in community service opportunities at both of these elementary schools. They become aware of issues and challenges facing their region and proactively become a part of the solution. All students kindergarten through grade-12 must complete 225 hours of community service as part of their graduation requirement.

Despite the unimaginable challenges and obstacles presented by the global pandemic over these past couple of years, our students, teachers, faculty, and staff all found ways to come together as a community. We found ways to help those in need while ensuring that every student was successful in their academic career by providing them with resources to meet their educational needs, all while keeping everyone healthy and safe.
