A Lucky Strike for the 11th-grade Atoms

Utica Academy of Science junior-senior high school’s 11th-grade students went on a bowling field trip prior to spring recess.

Wednesday, April 6th, 2022We won’t spare any of the details on this strikingly fun-filled field trip with the Utica Academy of Science junior-senior high school 11th-grade students. Leading up to Spring Recess, the Atoms headed to the alley, the bowling alley that is for an afternoon of laughter, excitement and of course bowling. This field trip was a great way to kick-start Spring Recess, and everyone (teachers included) had a striking great time.

A special shout out and thank you to Mr. Bullis for arranging this bowling field trip.

What Makes You Different, Makes You Beautiful

Utica Academy of Science junior-senior high school embodied its students to practice self-love, reflection and perception in an art project called, What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful.

Friday, March 4th, 2022On this ‘Throwback Thursday,’ we are sharing an art project from Utica Academy of Science junior-senior high school. This project focuses on self-love and perception. Many people, including teenagers and young adults, face varying insecurities about themselves.

The goal of the 'What Makes you Different, Makes you Beautiful' art project allowed the students to explore through art the different 'faces' and insecurities they have within themselves and create a collage. Their artwork shows them with their masks off, and they shared why (or why they don't) wear their mask.

This art project was very moving and allowed the students to realize that they are more alike than they are different. Everyone can have a tendency to feel insecure about themselves, and it's important to empower others and be kind to one another.

We want to thank Supreme Court Judge David Murad for taking time out of his schedule to come and speak with the Atoms!

1st-Grade Atoms take a Trip Under the Sea

Utica Academy of Science elementary school students learned about animal defense models and created their own by using a variety of materials.

Friday, March 11th, 2022The Utica Academy of Science elementary school students in Ms. DeAngelis & Ms. Flihan's class embarked on a trip 'under the sea' where no snorkeling gear would be necessary. For this trip, students put their creativity to the test when making animal defense models. For this hands-on, minds-on class project, students could select one of the following animals: sea turtle, crab, pufferfish, or lionfish. Upon selecting their animals, Atoms created their defense models based on the animal's structure. This fun and the creative project allowed the students to think outside the box and apply what they learned.

Throwback Thursday: Field Trip to Clinton Arena

Utica Academy of Science junior-senior high school ENL students visited the Clinton Arena for an ice skating field trip.

Wednesday, February 9th, 2022It may be spring, but who doesn't love a good 'throwback?' In February, Utica Academy of Science junior-senior high school ENL students visited the Clinton Arena for an ice skating field trip. For many of the students, this was their first-time ice skating. As one can imagine, there were a few falls, but teamwork was always on full display in true Atom fashion. By the end of this field trip, all the students were skating like future Olympians.

A ‘CRAZY’ Good Time Before Spring Recess

Utica Academy of Science elementary school students participate in an after school student math club, Crazy 8s, where they bring math to life with STEM activities.

Friday, April 8th, 2022This may seem a little 'crazy' to you, but if you are a member of Utica Academy of Science elementary school's newest Math Club, The Crazy 8's, this is business as usual!

Before Spring Recess, the Crazy 8's meet for an afternoon of math, fun and excitement. With hands-on, minds-on learning, Atoms have been able to apply what they have learned in the classroom to the STEM activities in Crazy 8s.

Over the last few weeks, students have solved math problems using dice, playing Bingo (on a life-size board), plotting coordinates to find buried treasure, and making (and testing) marshmallow catapults.

We all knew that math could be this much fun! Thank you, Crazy 8s, for helping bring math to life and all the fun and excitement. Please click here to visit our Facebook page to view more pictures from the Crazy 8s.
