Friday, January 27th, 2023: It was a big day for Utica Academy of Science Atoms! Thanks to the efforts of so many, Ms. Thayer’s 6th graders started a new chapter as the first class/grade ever to sign out books and use the library! Students were excited about this opportunity and grateful for much-needed independent reading time.

Tuesday, January 31st, 2023: Utica musician, Mike Barr, came to talk to Utica Academy of science elementary students about guitar, songwriting, and performing with our Performing Arts Club. The scholars got to listen to live music, strum on an electric guitar, and hear all about what it takes to play instruments live!
Do you want to find out how we build success one atom at a time? Or how we create an environment that allows your child to shine with the individuality they deserve? Or that we focus on college curriculum from the minute your child walks through our doors?
If you’re looking for a diverse, intimate, challenging, and exciting school for your child, look no further than the Science Academies of New York (SANY) Charter Schools. We genuinely believe in our motto, “Many Atoms, One Family,” and we strive to give your child the best learning environment possible while making them feel part of our family. We want every student to walk through our doors and feel at home, like they belong.
And the best part? It’s tuition free. Find out how we are building success one atom at a time, and enroll your child now. The Science Academies of New York Charter Schools is accepting applications for the 2023-24 school year.

Saturday, January 28th, 2023: Junior-senior high school Utica Academy of Science Atoms participated in the Micron Robotics Challenge. This year’s challenge prompt was “Combat the effects of climate change.” Teams needed to be made up of at least four students, and individual schools were limited to 3 teams maximum. Teams had to design, build, and test a prototype device that addressed the challenge prompt and met certain specifications to be eligible for awards. Judges evaluated projects in a science-fair style judging session on three metrics: technical proficiency, design creativity/process, and student comprehension of STEM concepts.

Thursday, January 26th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science fourth graders took a gutterly perfect trip! Atoms went to AMF Pin-O-Rama lanes in Utica. Our scholars had a great time bowling while learning the importance of teamwork to achieve their goals!

Friday, January 20th, 2023: 2nd Grade Atoms took a field trip to Accelerate Sports in Whitesboro. Scholars went through a series of stations playing soccer, basketball, and kickball and even convinced the teachers to play kickball! Afterward, students were surprised with another series of stations playing dodgeball, relay races, and using a giant parachute to play games. The scholars were energetic all day and had a wonderful time exercising!

Friday, January 13th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science junior-senior high school staff and faculty had State Trooper and School and Community Outreach Coordinator (SCOCs) Brian Derochie provide Active Shooter and Lockdown Training. New York State helped set the benchmark for school safety. As part of the comprehensive strategy, each region has SCOCs. The state trooper website describes SCOCs as: “maintain a statewide presence and present to schools, community and business groups on a variety of topics. The SCOCs are well versed in the intricacies of school safety and security, crime prevention and deterrence, and effective crisis response.”
Trooper Derochie had a chance to provide updates regarding events and new methods and answer questions from UASCS staff about school safety. It was a very productive event and a part of the effort for SANY to set up a benchmark concerning school safety and security.

Monday, December 19th, 2022: “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!” The young musicians at the Utica Academy of Science elementary school showed off their musical skills at the Winter Concert. The school and community came together to help make this a fantastic experience for the students and their families!
