Tuesday, January 31st, 2023: Third-grade Utica Academy of Science students took a field trip to UNO Pizzeria and Grill, where they practiced restaurant etiquette! Atoms were excited to have lunch with their classmates in a restaurant. We also got a tour of the kitchen and made homemade pizzas! We topped off the day with a delicious dessert and a restaurant etiquette activity. We were so grateful for this opportunity and hope to be back soon!
Thursday, February 9th, 2023: Introducing the Utica Atoms Soccer Club! The club finished its first session with 55 students enrolled. Going into the second session, we have over 120 students registered! The students participated in various activities, including skill and character development and gameplay experience.
Men's Varsity Soccer Coach Tyler Merriam leads Utica Atoms Soccer Club with the help of program coaches Mohammed Abuzamak and Camil Hamza. The Varsity Soccer team athletes also get involved by providing mentorships for the younger students coming through to help enhance the sense of community within our program!
This program is just the beginning of what we intend to offer to our Utica Atoms soccer students!!
Friday, January 27th, 2023: It was a big day for Utica Academy of Science Atoms! Thanks to the efforts of so many, Ms. Thayer’s 6th graders started a new chapter as the first class/grade ever to sign out books and use the library! Students were excited about this opportunity and grateful for much-needed independent reading time.
Tuesday, January 31st, 2023: Utica musician, Mike Barr, came to talk to Utica Academy of science elementary students about guitar, songwriting, and performing with our Performing Arts Club. The scholars got to listen to live music, strum on an electric guitar, and hear all about what it takes to play instruments live!

Saturday, January 28th, 2023: Junior-senior high school Utica Academy of Science Atoms participated in the Micron Robotics Challenge. This year’s challenge prompt was “Combat the effects of climate change.” Teams needed to be made up of at least four students, and individual schools were limited to 3 teams maximum. Teams had to design, build, and test a prototype device that addressed the challenge prompt and met certain specifications to be eligible for awards. Judges evaluated projects in a science-fair style judging session on three metrics: technical proficiency, design creativity/process, and student comprehension of STEM concepts.
Thursday, January 26th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science fourth graders took a gutterly perfect trip! Atoms went to AMF Pin-O-Rama lanes in Utica. Our scholars had a great time bowling while learning the importance of teamwork to achieve their goals!
Thursday, January 26th, 2023: It’s time to celebrate the December and January students of the month! Utica Academy of Science K-2 students were recognized for having the highest dojo points in their class. Students of the month were recognized for the December character trait, responsibility, and for the January trait, acceptance.
Congratulations to all our Dojo’s and students of the month! We love celebrating YOU.

Thursday, January 26th, 2023: Congratulations to the Utica Academy of Science Varsity Volleyball team on their win against the Herkimer Magicians!
These players and coaches rose to the occasion against all odds and came home with the W!

Friday, January 20th, 2023: 2nd Grade Atoms took a field trip to Accelerate Sports in Whitesboro. Scholars went through a series of stations playing soccer, basketball, and kickball and even convinced the teachers to play kickball! Afterward, students were surprised with another series of stations playing dodgeball, relay races, and using a giant parachute to play games. The scholars were energetic all day and had a wonderful time exercising!
