UAS JSHS Staff are Provided Active Shooter and Lockdown Training

State Trooper Gives Utica Academy of Science Staff Active Shooter Training

Friday, January 13th, 2023: Utica Academy of Science junior-senior high school staff and faculty had State Trooper and School and Community Outreach Coordinator (SCOCs) Brian Derochie provide Active Shooter and Lockdown Training. New York State helped set the benchmark for school safety. As part of the comprehensive strategy, each region has SCOCs. The state trooper website describes SCOCs as: “maintain a statewide presence and present to schools, community and business groups on a variety of topics. The SCOCs are well versed in the intricacies of school safety and security, crime prevention and deterrence, and effective crisis response.”

Trooper Derochie had a chance to provide updates regarding events and new methods and answer questions from UASCS staff about school safety. It was a very productive event and a part of the effort for SANY to set up a benchmark concerning school safety and security.

Season's Greetings from SANY Schools - 2022

Dear Utica Academy of Science Charter School Community,

How is it already Holiday Break? It seems like we were welcoming students back on campus for the new school year just yesterday. The end of the year is a time for reflection and remembrance. We are thankful for where we came from and have a moment to think about where we are going as we pursue the future with hope.

Therefore, I want to take some time to reflect on everything we have accomplished together so far this year.

  • Utica Academy of Science high school cybersecurity class participates in a two-day bootcamp in Virginia.
  • Utica Academy of Science Varsity Soccer Team Defeats Madison 2-0.
  • Utica Academy of Science elementary school teacher, Ms. Parr, starts a band program.

  • 11 Utica Academy of Science Seniors are accepted to Utica University on instant decision day
  • Girls Varsity basketball celebrates their first win ever as a varsity team.
  • Utica Academy of Science junior senior high school dance team made their debut.

Looking at that long list of accomplishments, it’s hard to believe we are only halfway through the year! We can tackle anything as long as we work together as many atoms, one family.
