Friday, November 20th, 2020Lights, Camera, Smile Atoms its picture day! Keeping health and safety in mind for all, Utica Academy of Science elementary school hosted a picture day for both its hybrid learning students, as well as its remote learning students. Hybrid students had picture day on Tuesday and Friday (11/17 & 11/20) during school hours, while remote learning students were Friday (11/20) after school. Middle School Atoms Honor Roll Presentation

Utica Academy of Science middle school hybrid students receive honor roll certificates for their academic achievements during the first marking period.

Thursday, November 17th, 2020At the beginning of the school year the Utica Academy of Science Middle School Atoms each wrote down goals as to what they would like to achieve this school year. One of their many goals was to receive a high grade point average. It is no surprise that many of our students have already achieved that goal and will continue to reach it every marking period.

At the end of the first marking period the Utica Academy of Science Middle School administration team presented honor roll certificates to the hybrid students who were able to meet the following grade point averages, and certificates were mailed to the online students who also met the same grade point averages.

  • Merit Roll: 86-89.9
  • Honor Roll: 90-92.9
  • High Honor Roll: 93-96.9
  • Dean’s List Award: 97-100

CNY Bridges: Build ‘Em & Bust ‘Em Challenge

Utica Academy of Science Atoms competed and won 3rd place and Best Design in this year’s CNY Bridges: Build ‘Em and Bust ‘Em Challenge hosted by the MOST.

Saturday, November 14th, 2020- Utica Academy of Science Middle School Atoms, Hamza and Gideon teamed up this past weekend constructing, designing and winning 3rd place and Best Design in Category 2 (7th and 8th Grade) at the annual CNY Bridges: Build ‘Em and Bust ‘Em Challenge hosted by the MOST.

STEM students were tasked with engineering a balsawood bridge in teams or individually. Hamza and Gideon would design and construct a truss bridge built entirely out of glue and balsawood. The day of the competition, participants would submit their bridge for a test of its efficiency rating, a measure of how many times its own weight the bridge could support before the structural failure. Great job, Atoms!

A Cheesy Slice of Happiness on a Wednesday

Utica Academy of Science Elementary Atoms created personal pan pizzas using bread or English Muffins

Wednesday, November 4th, 2020Elementary Atoms and pizza - it’s a perfect match! On one fine Wacky Wednesday, Atoms became the master chefs in their kitchens and created their signature dish, pizza. Without using pizza dough students successfully crafted personal pan pizza using bread or an English Muffin. The results of course, delicious and extra cheesy! Atoms shared their dish and had lunch with their classmates over Zoom.

Fun in the Sun on a Warm November Day

Utica Academy of Science middle school students from Ms. Fallone’s class enjoyed a nice walk outside during an unseasonably warm and sunny November day.

Tuesday, November 10th, 2020When it is 75 degrees and sunny outside in November, in Central New York, one must take advantage of this unseasonable weather! Ms. Fallone’s middle school Atoms did just that! Students enjoyed a nature walk, stretched their legs and soaked in the sun’s rays. Simply put, it was a beautiful day!

College Information Session - Scholarship & Financial Aid

Utica Academy of Science High School hosted its first Parents College Information Session where they discussed completing a college application and Scholarship

Thursday, October 22nd, 2020- Utica Academy of Science prides itself on creating an atmosphere that allows students to become college ready. Throughout the Atoms’ academic career our teachers, faculty and staff create a college bound culture complete with college visits, tours, guest speakers, and so much more! As our Seniors get ready to transition from high school to their collegiate career, our Utica Academy of High School teachers, faculty and staff hosted its first of many parents College Information Session.

At our first College Information Session, Mr. Kovar discussed with the parents, Scoir - a solution for students, parents, counselors and colleges that focus on finding the right fit through a unified college search and planning network. In addition, Mr. Kovar discussed the senior college application process prior to financial aid and FAFSA. Attendees welcomed guest speaker Mike Pede, Financial Aid Director at Mohawk Valley Community College.

Middle School Atoms Honor Veterans on Veterans Day

Friday, November 6th, 2020—On Veterans Day we celebrate, honor and remember all those who have served and salute those who are currently serving in the United States armed forces. The Utica Academy of Science middle school Atoms celebrated four local veterans via Zoom and shared a very memorable moment. The Veterans shared with the students their stories in the military, life experiences, knowledge and so much more. Thank you Veterans for taking the time out of your schedule to spend an afternoon with the Atoms, and thank you for your service!
