Wednesday, October 14th, 2020—It’s that wonderful time of year for our high school seniors, SAT testing time. As they prepare and get ready for college, the first step is to take the SAT. Seniors woke up bright and early for their test, and entered through the side door of the building. Students individually had their temperatures checked and proper PPE. Great job to not only our students but the test administrator and staff for proctoring the exam.
Saturday, October 17th, 2020—Middle school Atoms, Hazma and Gideon hit the open waters and face tough competition at this year’s virtual CNY Steamboat challenge presented by the MOST. On Saturday, October 17th STEM students competed in a ‘pop-pop’ or a ‘putt-putt’ boat engineering challenge. Students could compete individually or in groups of 2 or 3. Each team was tasked with not only designing their own boat, but also constructing it. Boats were to be miniature working steamboats powered by only a single tealight candle. In addition, students had to discuss their designs virtually to the judges and describe how their boat was constructed. Hazma and Gideon represented Utica Academy of Science middle school and took home 3rd place. Great job, Atoms! Click here to view this year's competition.
Tuesday, October 13th, 2020—Everyone’s morning routine may look a bit different these days. To ensure the health and safety of Utica Academy of Science’s students, faculty, teachers and staff head to our Facebook page to check out the elementary school’s daily morning routine for its Atoms.
As hybrid learning students arrive on campus in small groups, their temperatures will be screened and hand sanitized with masks. Upon arrival, they will follow the blue line to their respective classrooms. Utica Academy of Science will continue to follow the health and safety guidelines from New York State.
Friday, September 25th, 2020—The sixth grade teachers go the extra mile to show their support, strength, unity and team spirit for their students. Teachers, Ms. Latray, Mrs. Cowen and Mr. Farnach showcases their unified teamwork with custom t-shirts that read, ‘6th Grade Strong, No Matter the Distance.’ While students may not be able to see each other every day, distance will not keep them down from working together as a team, and uniting as one - even if done virtually. Keep up the great work, Atoms!
Monday, October 5th, 2020—To say we appreciate our teachers is an understatement. From their creativity, to answering the call of duty and going above and beyond, to guiding, educating and teaching our Atoms, and so much more. Today on World Teachers Day, we celebrate all that you do! Thank you for all your hard work each and every day.
Thursday, September 17th, 2020—What happens when you mix creativity and school spirit in 2020? You get none other than an amazing custom, one-of-a-kind face mask with the school logo! Look at that creativity. We are excited to see the love and care parents share for our school. Custom, cute and Atom to boot!
Tuesday, September 8th, 2020—Over the past few weeks we had the privilege of welcoming back our Atom for the 2020 - 2021 school year. The first day of school is one that brings so much joy and happiness to not only our teachers but to students and their families alike. While this year may look and feel a bit different we are embracing this new normal, and Utica Academy of Science Charter Schools are adhering to the New York State guidelines for health and safety.
Students and families have the option for either hybrid or online learning. Elementary Atoms who are participating in hybrid learning meet two days a week, with three days of online learning. Middle school Atoms have a classroom size maxed at nine students per classroom. Mask wearing and social distancing are maintained.
While the halls feel a bit empty in the high school, as teachers are back in the classrooms, we virtually welcomed back our eldest Atoms. High school students will be doing full-time remote learning, with the option of a one day in-person mentorship program for tutoring and or social emotional well being.
We wish all of our Atoms the best success and luck this academic year. Many Atoms, One family.
Today we honor those who lost their lives and families whose lives were tragically changed on this day 19 years ago. We thank all our brave first responders and active duty veteran military. United we stand.
