Tuesday, February 9th, 2021—Utica Academy of Science elementary school Atoms in Ms. Cavo’s class celebrated Valentine’s Day with some sweet treats and activities. In honor of their Valentine’s Day themed celebration, students wore a lovely shade of Atom Red, and read a holiday themed story. Atoms also participated in various Valentine’s Day activities. Happy Valentine’s Day, Atoms!

Utica Academy of Science high school students have been going above and beyond this school year to give back to those in their community who need it the most. From writing heartwarming messages to the children at the St. Jude hospital, to writing letters to the residents at the Masonic Care Community, to even purchasing a simple cup of coffee for someone who needs a quick pick-me-up. These acts both big and small have certainly not gone unnoticed, especially in the middle of a global pandemic.

Today, Utica Academy of Science high school had the great pleasure of welcoming Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon of the Assembly District 119 who presented a proclamation for Utica Academy of Science high school’s Kindness Challenge - an event hosted by the National Honor Society members encouraging their fellow classmates and teachers to perform random acts of kindness both big or small for a chance to win a free pizza delivery. It is with this simple challenge of spreading kindness that led to Assemblywoman Buttenshon mentioning that it would be great to turn this event into a Dzana & Erna Kindness Law.

Monday, February 1st, 2021—Meet Utica Academy of Science high school Announcement Team. Introducing Narrith Sou , Savannah Noel, Elias Romero, and Briana Toribio who lead their fellow Atoms in a daily pledge, deliver morning messages, provide a weather update, share a fun fact about this day in history, and a fun inspirational quote to kick-off the morning. Can you think of a better way to start your day? Thank you students for your dedication, hard work and commitment to your school community.

Monday, January 25th, 2021—Have you ever wondered what you could make using recycled materials around your home? Could you make a rocket ship, a car or even a new toy that could provide hours of entertainment? The Utica Academy of Science elementary Atoms put their creativity and imagination to the test for their recent art project called, Recycled Sculptures. The students were tasked with upcycling materials around their home and creating works of art. Head to our Facebook page to see the sculptures the Atoms are proudly displaying!

Wednesday, January 28th, 2021—What would you do with feet of snow? Build a snowman, of course! The Utica Academy of Science high school IT team worked to create this beautiful snowman (who just so happens to be following social distancing guidelines and is masked up) sits at the front of the building and greets everyone as they walk past. Thank you, Mr. Oz, Vadim and Mohammad for creating this snowman which brings so much joy and happiness to all.

Wednesday, January 27th, 2021—Utica Academy of Science high school put their creativity and sentimental hats on when creating this breathtaking masterpiece. Atoms and teachers submitted pictures of themselves and their families which were combined to create the UAHS Family Tree. Many Atoms, one Family (Tree)!

Monday, February 1st, 2021—Earlier this week, before the snowstorm hit, Utica Academy of Science elementary school welcomed back its in-person hybrid learning Atoms. It was so great to see the students and to feel their excitement and energy to be back at school. Welcome back, students!

Monday, January 25th, 2021—Utica Academy of Science elementary school first grade Atoms in Ms. Jayne’s class has been studying the achievements and life work of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. To honor and celebrate his life, the students drew pictures and shared love and kindness towards one another over Zoom. We are so proud of you Atoms, keep up the great work!

Thursday, January 21st, 2021—Over winter recess, Utica Academy of Science elementary student, Leo, received a $25 gift card to Target. Instead of spending the gift card, Leo decided to donate it to those who needed it the most, the Rescue Mission of Utica. It’s with this simple random act of kindness that will be able to help touch the lives of many.

However, this gesture did not end there, but instead sparked a pay it forward movement with his family. Leo’s mother decided she would match the donation and purchased personal care items that will be shipped to the Rescue Mission of Utica, as well. To say that we are proud of Leo, is an understatement. Thank you, Leo for thinking of others, and giving back to your community. This act of kindness and generosity will go a long way to help those in need. We are so proud of you!

Friday, January 15th, 2021—Utica Academy of Science middle school invited SUNY Potsdam alumna, Arielle Woelter as a virtual guest speaker to speak with their science class. Arielle spoke with the students about her academic life at SUNY Potsdam, her career working in regenerative medicine and senescence research and therapies, hobbies and what she likes to do in her spare time.

Arielle holds a Bachelor's degree in biology with a concentration in molecular and cellular biology from SUNY Potsdam. Arielle will be starting her Master’s degree in Cell and Microbiology in 2021.
