A Merit Based Activity with all the Rhythm

Middle school Atoms with two or less unexcused absences were eligible to attend the merit based activity, AttenDANCE

Monday, November 4, 2019The middle school hosted a merit based activity that not only had rhythm but it certainly made us feel like dancing. Atoms who had two or less unexcused absences during the quarter were eligible to attend the quarterly AttenDANCE. Students enjoyed delicious snacks and refreshments, showing off their moves on the dance floor, spending time with their friends, taking selfies at the photo booth with props and so much more. Keep up the great work, Atoms! Looking forward to next quarter’s AttenDANCE.

Merit Based Activity that was MINT to be

Atoms Visit Salem, Massachusetts for a Quick Spell

High school Atoms visit Salem, Massachusetts after reading the play, The Crucible written by Arthur Miller

Tuesday, November 5, 2019After reading the historic play, The Crucible written by Arthur Miller in 1953, high school Atoms visited the town of Salem, Massachusetts to get a glimpse of history. Surrounded by all things ‘witchy’ students visited the Salem Witch Museum where they saw the documents of the Salem Witch Trial in 1692. This educational field trip allowed Atoms to compare what they read in The Crucible to the true events of what took place at the Salem Witch Trials. An important lesson students experienced was sometimes history has not always been recorded accurately which can lead to various versions of the truth and stories.

We hope you will join us for our upcoming November Coffee & Conversation on Thursday, November 21st at 2:30 PM.

Atoms Host the Veterans Appreciation Program

High school Atoms host their 2nd Annual Veterans Appreciation Program in honor of Veterans Day

Friday, November 8, 2019In honor of Veterans Day, high school Atoms hosted its second annual Veterans Appreciation Program where Veterans were honored and thanked by the Utica Academy of Science Community. Veterans Day honors those who have served in the U.S. Military, and through this program students were able to find a way to give back to the Veteran community. Atoms not only were able to meet and speak with the Veterans, but they were able to ask them questions and more importantly, listened to their life stories. Thank you to all the brave men and women who have served (and are currently serving) in the U.S. Military.

A Wicked-ly Awesome Elementary Fall Festival

Elementary Atoms celebrated Halloween at their Fall Festival

Thursday, October 31, 2019A spooktacular day filled with fab-boo-lous activities, creative costumes and of course sweet treats to kick-off the start of Halloween. Elementary Atoms enjoyed their annual Fall Festival, where students could dress up in their favorite literary costumes. Their creativity certainly shined with costumes such as a sumo wrestler, a Harry Potter character in the Gryffindor House, Power Rangers, and ninjas, just to name a few. Thank you to all the Family School Alliance (FSA) members for helping decorate for the Fall Festival and for providing sweet candy for the event, as well.

Hayrides, Pumpkins, and Corn - Oh My!

Thursday, October 24, 2019 — Ms. Brown took her 2nd Graders to Cullen Pumpkin Farm for their monthly field-trip to celebrate fall & to witness the turning of the season first-hand. UAS ES Atoms explored a winding corn maze and experienced a hayride through cornfields and pumpkin patches. Atoms also went aboard the pumpkin express and left with our very own pumpkins. Our scholars had a blast and can't wait for our next monthly field trip.

Middle School Atom Meets NBA Legend, Kobe Bryant

Middle School Atom’s basketball talent and skills were noticed by NBA Legend, Kobe Bryant

Saturday, October 19, 2019It is no surprise that our Atoms have talent, both in academics and athletics. This young Atom in particular had a trip of a lifetime as she showcased her basketball talent and athletic ability on the court against the daughter of NBA legend (and future hall of famer), Kobe Bryant. While her team did unfortunately lose, our middle school Atom’s basketball skills spoke for themselves and were noticed by Kobe. Following the game, Kobe called her by name and mentioned that he “loved her game, and basketball is going to take her places!”

Don’t just take our word for it or Kobe’s, she has been recruited and peaked interest in many colleges and universities for her basketball ability. For instance, Temple University, Hampton University, University of California, and LSU, just to name a few. We are excited to see her rise in the basketball ranks as she continues to practice, grow and hone in on her talent.

Manufacturing Day at Mohawk Valley Community College

Middle School Atoms attend MVCC’s Manufacturing Day

Friday, October 18, 2019—What does the field of manufacturing, transformers and former Syracuse University basketball legend have in common? Funny you should ask, because they were all present at this year's Mohawk Valley Community College's Manufacturing Day. Middle and high school Atoms had the opportunity to learn about various careers in the manufacturing field, educational programs that would prepare them for careers in the manufacturing industry, as well as, meeting and talking with exhibitors. Students also met, and asked for his autograph, former Syracuse University legend, John Wallace.
