Friday, November 22, 2019—Each month, Utica Academy of Science middle school hosted their Coffee & Conversation event which allows parents/guardians to meet and speak with the school’s dean, counselor, teachers and behavior specialist. This is an incredible opportunity to get involved in your Atom’s education.
If you are interested in joining us for December’s Coffee & Conversation, please mark your calendar for Friday, December 20th at 10:00 AM. We hope you will join us.
Tuesday, December 10, 2019—High school staff, Mrs. Paul, Mr. Kovar and Mrs. Grabovica give back to the greater Utica area and community through Fidelis Care’s Stuff the Bus Camp Out. Teachers donated toys to help those less fortunate this holiday season. With their generosity, the team had the privilege of being guests on the Talk of the Town radio program where they mentioned how Utica Academy of Science is actively involved in their community, the diversity of the school and oh so much more! Great work, UAS teachers.
Friday, December 13, 2019— Each year, Utica Academy of Science Elementary school participates in the making of a music dance video. Thanks to our friends at 325 Productions, students danced to the song "Better When I'm Dancin'" by Meghan Trainor. While we pride ourselves in upholding a rigorous school environment, we also work hard to provide a balance of both academics and fun. It's with this balance that we continue to build success, one Atom at a time.
Utica Academy of Science is currently accepting student applications for the 2020 - 2021 school year. Apply today by visiting http://apply.sany.org.
Tuesday, November 26, 2019—Students in Mrs. Brown’s class learned how a simple letter could brighten up someone’s day, especially someone who is stationed overseas. In honor of Veteran’s Day, Atoms learned why we commemorate Veterans on Veteran’s Day. As a project, students took time to write soldiers stationed overseas and thanked them for their service. These kind words and simple gesture made a world of difference, created a lasting impact and brightened up the soldiers’ day. To the Atoms’ surprise, they received a video thanking them for their letters and just how much it meant to receive them. Thank you to all the brave men and women who are currently serving (or have served) in the U.S. Military.
Monday, November 25, 2019—Everyone’s favorite hedgehog, Sonic, or well in this case Gus Gus, woke up from his nocturnal nap to meet the 7th grade Atoms during their Health class. Excited to take a break from his cage and roam around a circle of friends, Gus Gus was the highlight of the afternoon. Students enjoyed petting, holding and playing with Gus Gus.
Tuesday, November 19, 2019—High school Atoms visited the Marquee Cinema in New Hartford to see the new movie, Harriet - starring Cynthia Erivo as Harriet Tubman.
The movie is based on the inspirational life of an iconic American freedom fighter and tells the extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s greatest heroes. With her courage, ingenuity and tenacity freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history.
Following the movie, Atoms will be comparing various reviews and critiques of the film and discuss the way the stories of women and minorities are portrayed in America media.
Monday, November 25, 2019—Thanksgiving is a holiday in which many share what they express their gratitude, appreciation and give thanks. This year, the middle school team hosted a traditional Thanksgiving meal to show their appreciation for their teachers, faculty and staff. The teachers, faculty and staff were invited to extend the invitation to their families to join in on the festivities. Thank you to all the middle school team members for all their hard work.
Friday, November 8, 2019—The middle school invited the community and stakeholders to join them for a session to discuss ways they can continue to enhance the educational experience for its students. Educational growth is one of the many ways we continue to build success one Atom at a time.
Monday, November 4, 2019—The middle school hosted a merit based activity that not only had rhythm but it certainly made us feel like dancing. Atoms who had two or less unexcused absences during the quarter were eligible to attend the quarterly AttenDANCE. Students enjoyed delicious snacks and refreshments, showing off their moves on the dance floor, spending time with their friends, taking selfies at the photo booth with props and so much more. Keep up the great work, Atoms! Looking forward to next quarter’s AttenDANCE.
