The Wearing of the Green

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, asea of green decorations swept over the streets of Utica at the city’s recent St. Patrick’s Day parade. UAS students who attended the event celebrated with fellow citizens to build positive relationships with various community organizations represented in the parade.

LEGO League Blasts Off on a “Moon Mission”

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, this year’s first Junior LEGO League event blasted off with a “Moon Mission” theme at SUNY Polytechnic in Utica. The team was formed last December and continues to provide rewarding experiences for all participants.

Celebrating Black History Month and Women's History Month

On Wednesday, March 13, 2019, to celebrate Black History Month and Women's History Month, the UASCS Pre-Calculus class presented projects worked on in pairs. Each team of scholars chose a male or female African American mathematician to study and presented a short story of the mathematician’s life and major contributions to the Math world. Sharing what they learned was a great opportunity for all students to enhance their knowledge of the excellent achievements of Black men and women.

Celebrating Aspiring Young Artists at #UASCS Elementary

On Wednesday, March 6, 2019, our Atoms focused on fingerpainting their way to developing motor skills, decision making, language development, and visual learning skills. The Utica Academy of Science celebrated the artwork of Kindergarten and first-grade scholars during our recent Art Show. Parents, teachers, and students collaborated on a large mural during the event while celebrating the arts as a part of our curriculum. 

First-Grade Atoms Read with Professional Soccer Star

On Monday, March 11, 2019, Canadian soccer forward, Frederico "Freddy" Moojen, of the Utica City FC stopped by the #UASCS Elementary and read to our first-grade Atoms. Utica City FC is a professional indoor soccer team based in Utica, NY that plays in the Eastern Conference of the Major Arena Soccer League. Inviting community members to support and inspire our young Atoms is just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time. 

UAS Scores High in National Math Competition

 
On Friday, March 1, 2019, five Utica Academy of Science scholars took an online test for MATH-CON, a national math competition of more than 50,000 participants, of which only 900 are invited to advance to the final round. We are excited to announce that scholars Muris Arnautovic and Amir Salkanovic scored in the 98 percentile rank and have been invited to the MATH-CON finals in Chicago. Please congratulate them and all of our scholars who participated in this prestigious student competition.

NYS Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon visited UAS

On Friday, March 8, 2019, NYS Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon visited Utica Academy of Science and spoke to our 10th grade female UASAtoms while we were celebrating International Women's Day. She talked about the importance of women’s role in leadership, values and respect for women. 

Black History Month Celebration

On February 28, 2019, #UASCS celebrated 2nd Annual Black History month. Black History Month is an annual observance originating in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month.

Bosnian Culture and Independence Day Celebration

 
March 1 is Bosnian Independence Day, and the Utica Academy of Science held their first annual "Bosnian Culture and Independence Day Celebration."
 
On March 1, 1992, Bosnia and Herzegovina became an independent and sovereign state, and only a month after the declaration of independence, it was brutally attacked. Between 1992 and 2007 the State Department resettled 131,000 refugees from war-torn Bosnia Herzegovina in the United States. 
 
Successful speakers, Bosnian music, the traditional folk dance “Kud Ljiljan,” poems, historical lessons, and cuisine filled the cafeteria to honor and celebrate the contributions of the Bosnian community to our community and the City of Utica. This March marks the twenty-seventh year of independence.

First Pep Rally at #UASCS

On Friday, March 1st, UAS held their first ever pep rally to honor the boys' basketball team. The pep rally was led by Mrs. Paul. Schedule of events included: Introduction of Players and Mr. Lee; Video highlights of the team; A cheer routine performed by students and Mrs. Paul, Mrs. Grabovica and Ms. Narsasian; Remarks made by Mr. Lee and Mr. Ersoy and the rally ended with Mr. Brown leading the chant “Many Atoms, One Family”
