Tuesday, April 30, 2019—A field trip that was a bit on the 'oily' side … but ultimately tasty and highly memorable. First grade Atoms had the wonderful opportunity to get a front row seat and visit one of the world leaders in the olive oil market, Sovena. With over 10 million olive trees and exporting to over 70 countries, scholars learned about the olive oil making process, tried tasty snacks from other countries and had the opportunity to design their own olive oil label!
Wednesday, May 22, 2019—We all have been asked the question at least once in our lives, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" Kindergarten and 1st grade ESL Atoms learned about various careers and what they might want to be when they too grow up. At the career day, Atoms explored fields in public service, education, medical and more! One student mentioned they wanted to be a teacher when they grew up.
Thursday, May 9, 2019—It's time to celebrate major achievements at the Utica Academy of Science Charter Middle School. The event was held on Saturday, April 27, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Utica. UASCS is proud to support The Arc’s ongoing efforts to enhance the lives of those it serves in our community.
On Monday, March 18, 2019, students in 9th grade had the opportunity to attend Herkimer County's Career Day held at Herkimer College. With 60 different career representatives to choose from, students each explored four to five different career tables to gather information on how to connect their current academic pursuits to future career paths.
On Saturday, April 6, 2019, several female students participated in the STEM Expo for girls at MVCC Alumni College Center. The innovative one-day event was designed to introduce girls in grades 9 through 12 to opportunities in the fields of engineering and science. Eight scholars from our school participated in a challenge to build a tower out of spaghetti, with the tallest tower winning. Congratulations to our students Mia, Italia, and Madison, whose tower won first place!
On Monday, March 25, 2019, students cheered for their peers and friends who won the highest Dojo points in their classes, as well as for students who won student-of-the-month awards for displaying acts of caring. The classes of Mrs. Ferguson, Ms. Murray, Mrs. Woodruff and Mrs. Driscoll won the Golden Tray award last month for lining up the safest way and for picking up after themselves.
On Monday, March 25, 2019, #UASCS students enthusiastically greeted two guest speakers who brought along man’s best friend, a dog named Magoo. Dog trainers Catherine Perry and Jesse Woodruff came to teach students about proper dog etiquette. Students learned how to greet a new dog and how to move them through an agility course. All of the scholars loved the opportunity to meet Magoo.
