On Tuesday, November 20, 2018, #UASCS ninth graders voyaged to the Munson Williams Proctor Art Institue in Utica to study the Mythology Exhibit. Along with the Mythology Exhibit, our #UASAtoms received an introduction to the diverse styles of art currently on display. Providing our students with hands-on experiences relating to their coursework is just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.
On Friday, November 30, 2018, our eighth grade scholars visited either SUNY Oneonta or Hartwick College. Prior to the field trip #UASAtoms researched both colleges and were able to choose what college they wanted to tour based on their career interests. Staring the college and career exploration process in middle school is just one of the ways that we are building success one ATOM at a time.
On Tuesday, November 20, 2018, #UASCS scholars delivered turkeys to families that may not have enough to enjoy the holiday. Mr. Durmaz and his students organized it along with help from Mrs. D’Aoust and staff who helped to collect funds. Hannaford Supermarkets donated the fixings to complete the turkey meal. Thank you, Hannaford Supermarkets, and the entire #UASCS community. Teaching our scholars the value of philanthropic work is just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.
On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, #UASCS families and their Atoms enjoyed a night of math activities with their teachers in the classroom. #SASAtoms and families played math-related games, like bingo, and created turkeys with numbered feathers. Encouraging families to practice foundational math skills in fun and exciting ways is one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.
On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, our three #UASCS Kindergarten classes went on a trip to North Star Orchards. Upon arrival, we were greeted and split into two large groups. Group one began the trip on the hayride, while group two started under a pavilion and learned about the seasons and the apple cider making process. While the hayride took us around the property, the driver stopped several times so that the students could learn about everything that they grow on the farm, (apples, pumpkins, blueberries, Christmas trees, corn, etc.).
#UASAtoms also had the opportunity to learn about the property, buildings on the farm and see the cows! Once both groups were able to get through their stations, each class was able to pick a pumpkin to take home. The Orchard was also nice enough to send a box of apples back with us so that we could have time to see everything before it was time to leave. Thank you, Northstar Orchards!
On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, #UASCS parents participated in the joy and love of literacy with their #UASAtoms in the classroom. Teachers prepared various fun activities to help inspire a love of reading and learning. This was a great opportunity for families to support their child’s literacy growth in the classroom and help them start the year strong. Thank you to all our families who joined us at our monthly event.
