On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, our three #UASCS Kindergarten classes went on a trip to North Star Orchards. Upon arrival, we were greeted and split into two large groups. Group one began the trip on the hayride, while group two started under a pavilion and learned about the seasons and the apple cider making process. While the hayride took us around the property, the driver stopped several times so that the students could learn about everything that they grow on the farm, (apples, pumpkins, blueberries, Christmas trees, corn, etc.).
#UASAtoms also had the opportunity to learn about the property, buildings on the farm and see the cows! Once both groups were able to get through their stations, each class was able to pick a pumpkin to take home. The Orchard was also nice enough to send a box of apples back with us so that we could have time to see everything before it was time to leave. Thank you, Northstar Orchards!
On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, #UASCS parents participated in the joy and love of literacy with their #UASAtoms in the classroom. Teachers prepared various fun activities to help inspire a love of reading and learning. This was a great opportunity for families to support their child’s literacy growth in the classroom and help them start the year strong. Thank you to all our families who joined us at our monthly event.
On Tuesday, October 30, 2018 #UASCS middle school organized a field trip to Pumpkin Hollow. It was an opportunity for UASCS scholars to experience and discuss the human impact on the environment, and also to choose their favorite pumpkin in the field. These outdoor excursions are just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.
On Friday, October 26, 2018 #UASCS Middle School hosted the Glowing Party. The party was organized by the Parent Involvement Committee. The party was a great opportunity for students to have fun, socialize, and most importantly dance with the music carefully dj'ed by DJ Burwick.
On Monday, October 22, 2018 #UASCS held the October Assembly. This event was an opportunity to acknowledge the success of our #UASAtoms and share in community music performances. Acknowledge the success of our scholars is one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.
On Friday, October 19, 2018, first grade #UASAtoms attended their first class field trip to Fort Rickey Children's Discover Zoo, in Rome, NY. The zoo provided an ice cream cone full of animal food and #UASAtoms took bits at a time in their hand to feed the deer and sheep through the fence and then fed them the ice cream cone. After stepping into the enclosure, #UASAtoms were able to pet the deer and hug the sheep. Our #UASAtoms were then taken to the dock and were able to feed the fish and ducks, and they loved it!
We then took a wagon ride that drove us around the zoo, where we were able to see all of the animals in their enclosures. After lunch, we were let into the “maternity pen” where the students were able to pet and hold baby goats and their mothers. Following the maternity pen, we went and played in the ball pit. We aren't sure who had more fun, the students or the chaperones! These visits to local zoo's help expose our #UASAtoms to diverse wildlife and are just one of the ways we are building success one ATOM at a time.
